Frankfurt

We had a great day in Frankfurt. I may work here... but seeing the sites is difficult with our busy schedules so we made the trip a Sunday outing. . . and stayed in a hotel so I could see what its like to walk to work for once. 

We started out with a batch of pancakes. The waitress was proud to mention that the cook was American, but I already knew by looking at the fluffiness of the pancakes... sometimes they are very crepe-like in europe - still good, but these ones really tasted like home.

The little restaurant is called Bitter & Zart and the interiors were just my thing. 

Industrial lighting, trippy artwork, and peacocks! They also have Macaroons. That in itself is enough reason to go.

From there, I visited an art exhibit on a Norwegian Painter from the 1920s. You can see more art from Munch here.

We got on the street train and headed to a German Musical based on Anne Frank's Diary at the Frauenfriedenskirche.We were given a pamphlet that had the lyrics that were sung by the German-American Community Chior e.V., most of them direct quotes from Anne's Diary to re-tell her story.  My favorite line, which they ended the performance with, was this one:

'The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God.  Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.  As long as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be.  And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles'.  -Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl

After that, it was time for some beers by the river.

A Frankfurt soccer game had just let out, so the city was packed with excited spectators dressed in jerseys. 

At one point, everyone broke out into a cheer/chant for Frankfurt. 

Assuming they won, I asked a guy how Frankfurt played. 'Schrecklich'.. aka.. 'Horrible'. They lost the game... but the fan passion kept things upbeat. That, and they join the German Primary League, so they should be proud!

Our hotel was really cool. Each room designed by a different designer.
